The Hellisheiði Power Station is the eighth-largest geothermal power station in the world and the largest in Iceland. Inside the plant is the Geothermal Exhibition.\nKári Valgeirsson will provide a very interesting and informative webinar on both the power station and geothermal energy.\nKári Valgeirsson\nKári’s presentation will offer a look at geothermal energy in Iceland, covering both electricity generation and hot water production. A central focus will be the Hellisheiði Geothermal Power Plant, one of the largest geothermal power stations in the world, where Kári will examine its operations, capacity, and role in supplying power to the greater Reykjavík area. The presentation will also draw comparisons with other key geothermal producers in Iceland, giving a broader picture of how the country harnesses its unique geological setting across multiple sites. In addition, Kári will discuss some of the innovations of geothermal at Hellisheiði, including carbon sequestration, where captured CO₂ is permanently mineralized underground, and deep drilling, which aims to unlock even greater energy potential by reaching supercritical geothermal reservoirs at significant depths.\nHellisheiði Geothermal Exhibition building.\nKári holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Iceland and a Master’s degree in Energy Sciences, specializing in geothermal energy, from Reykjavík University.
