During the 2023-2024 year, Cait was awarded an American Scandinavian Foundation Folk Artist Fellowship to study with musicians Chris Foster and Bára Grímsdóttir in Iceland. Throughout the year, she focused on learning about different categories of Icelandic song and musical tradition, and spoke to different members of the Icelandic folk music community about the revitalization of Icelandic folk music.

As a teacher of folksong, Cait is interested in the methods that other tradition bearers are employing to engage audiences and bring more people, specifically young people, into the folk music tradition.

In this webinar, she will be sharing some historical information about different music types in Iceland and reporting back on the state of the Icelandic traditional music scene as it is seen by practitioners, academics, and ex-pat musicians.

These perspectives give us valuable insight into the revitalization process that is facing the Icelandic folk music community as well as modern methods and frameworks for engaging community in traditional music.

When: Thursday, September 19 at 8 PM Eastern, 7 PM Central, 6 PM Mountain, 5 PM Pacific

This event is open to the public and will be recorded.
