Harpa International Music Academy USA

The Icelandic National League of the United States is pleased to introduce our members and friends to new cultural activities related to Iceland and Icelanders. A new event to the United States this year is the Harpa International Music Academy USA (HIMA USA).

HIMA logoFounded by world-renowned violinist and Oberlin Conservatory professor Sibbi Bernhardsson, HIMA USA is inspired by our sister festival in Bernhardsson’s home country of Iceland. New to the United States this year, HIMA USA celebrates the power and joy of collective music making through high level classical music instruction and performances. Serving people of all ages, HIMA USA creates musical experiences that inspire a lifelong musical practice and enhance our appreciation of human connections through music making. This summer, HIMA USA presents a summer music academy for strings and string chamber music at the beautiful Lakeside Chautauqua and the Danbury Local Schools on the Lake Erie shore in Northeast Ohio. For more info visit:  www.himafestivalusa.org or email  info@himafestivalusa.org.

HIMA USA offers three strings programs from August 1 – 5, 2022:

  • Advanced String Quartet Intensive for Young Professional String Quartets
  • Junior String Workshop (ages 7 – 12)
  • Adult Amateur Chamber Music Workshop

Please join HIMA for their concerts at Lakeside Chautauqua. Visit https://www.himafestivalusa.org/concerts for a full program of performances and events. All performances will take place in Drackett Hall at the Grindley Aquatic and Wellness Center.

The INLUS is working with HIMA USA to determine if recordings might be made available for viewing for upcoming webinars.
