Learn Icelandic with these comprehensive courses

Hi, I’m Fernán, a language teacher from Spain. I help people learn Icelandic, one of the most fascinating languages, through online courses that are fun, flexible, affordable, and with live classes.

How I fell in love with Icelandic

I came across the Icelandic language and Iceland in a very casual way. I wanted to take my third (and final) year of my teacher’s studies abroad. A classmate mentioned he knew someone who had studied at Reykjavik University for a year and loved the experience. I met this person, and I found Iceland fascinating. It became my first option on my Erasmus destination sheet.

Living a whole academic year in Iceland sounded like a unique opportunity. It didn’t end there. I stayed for six years in total 😅. I completed my teacher training studies and a BA in Icelandic as a Second Language. Back in Spain, I earned a master’s degree in Translation and Interpretation. Years later, I passed the exam to become a sworn translator from Icelandic to Spanish. Today, I teach Icelandic full-time.

I won’t lie; learning Icelandic wasn’t easy, but it was gratifying. Icelandic has been the only language I’ve studied where I felt I could study as much as possible, but that didn’t mean I could use what I had just studied. It’s like the brain has its timing for Icelandic, and you can’t accelerate that even if you take five classes daily. Learning Icelandic gave me a new level of resilience. You’ll feel you’ve accomplished something.

Socially, learning Icelandic means a whole different experience in Iceland. Of course, Icelanders speak English too, but Icelandic is the key to Icelandic society. When you speak Icelandic, you’re part of the in-group (this is something many don’t realize).

Do you want Iceland to open its doors to you? Show Icelanders you’re part of the group with their language.

Wow Icelanders with these comprehensive Icelandic courses

These courses are the same people take before moving to Iceland or when they are already there.

You’ll speak, listen, read, write, and translate so that you develop as many skills as possible with a balanced, rounded approach. You’ll work with me personally and receive continuous feedback during our live classes.

If you can’t attend, you can watch the recordings, submit the assignments, and ask questions via email, just like everybody else (however, I’d love to see you sometime on Zoom so I can give you feedback on your pronunciation).

The time slots for group classes are from 18:00 to 21:55 CET/CEST. That’s 12:00-15:55 EST/EDT. You’ll have two to three weekly group classes (only one class per day). Each class is 55 minutes long.

To sign up for my courses, visit my website and choose the Icelandic course that suits your needs and interests. You can also take a free placement test to find out your level.
