Calling All Shutterbugs: Announcing the first INLUS Photo Contest

If you’re like most of us at INLUS, your camera roll is probably brimming with stunning images of Iceland—pictures your friends and family have admired (and maybe seen one too many times). That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our first-ever INLUS Photo Contest, created to celebrate the breathtaking beauty of Iceland and bring our community closer together.

This contest is an opportunity to share the joy, wonder, and memories that Iceland inspires, while showcasing the incredible talent, unique perspectives, and personal stories within our community.

Our inaugural contest theme is Summer Scenes in Iceland, and we’re inviting you to participate.

Whether you’re a seasoned photographer, an aspiring hobbyist, or just have a favorite snapshot from a summer trip, this is your chance to share your creativity and connect with others who love Iceland.

About the Contest

The INLUS Photo Contest is a new community initiative designed to celebrate Iceland’s beauty and build a library of photos for future INLUS content. Winners will be highlighted across our social media accounts and on our website. We aren’t currently offering prizes, but you can snag some serious bragging rights. 

We landed on the theme Summer Scenes in Iceland for the inaugural contest. We’d love your input on ideas for future contests. Just drop us a line at info@inlus.org.

You are free to interpret the “Summer Scenes” theme in ways that are most meaningful to you. Whether it’s the golden light of the midnight sun, vibrant landscapes, or festive moments you captured during Icelandic National Day, we want to see Iceland through your eyes.

How to Enter

Participation is easy. Here’s how to get involved:

Find your best photo: Choose a photo you took of Iceland that you feel captures our summer theme.

Post it: Upload it to either Facebook or Instagram (or both!)

Tag and hashtag:

• On Facebook, tag Icelandic National League of the United States.
• On Instagram, please tag @inloftheunitedstates.
• Use the hashtag #INLUSSummerPhoto25 to officially enter.

Add a caption (optional): Include a short caption about your photo. Tell us where it was taken and why it’s special, or share a memory connected to the shot. If you’d like to share more about the camera or equipment you used, feel free.

Important: Please also include your name (and social media handle, if you wish) as you would like it to appear when we credit you for the photo.

Submission deadline: All entries must be submitted within three weeks of the contest announcement, before March 23.

What Happens Next?

Once submissions close, our team will select 10 finalists based on creativity, quality, and alignment with the theme. These finalists will then be showcased on our social media channels for voting.

Followers can vote by “liking” their favorite images, and contestants are welcome (and encouraged!) to share the image to drive more votes. 

When we announce the finalists, we’ll also offer instructions for sharing these posts so you can spread the word and encourage friends and other photography enthusiasts to vote for your work.

Voting Period: Voting will be open for two weeks.

The photo with the most likes across both platforms will be our winner. We’ll also announce a runner up and a third-place contestant.

Celebrating Your Work

The winning photo will be featured on the INLUS website, social media, and other promotional materials—with full credit to you. We may also include images you submit in upcoming or future editions of our newsletter.

We’re excited to showcase your work to a broader audience. Even if you don’t win, your photo might still be featured in INLUS projects, like blogs, social posts, or other creative content (with proper credit, of course).

Important Notes for Participants

• By submitting a photo, you grant INLUS permission to feature your image in our content. We will always credit your name (and social media handle if you’d like), so please include your name and handle as you would like them to appear on the image.
• We only accept original, non-AI-generated photos.
• If your photo includes identifiable individuals, you must have their permission to share it.
• You can submit up to three images.
• You do not need to be an INLUS member to participate—but we welcome new members. Visit our Membership page for details on how to join.

Spread the Word

Know someone who loves Iceland and photography? Share this contest with them. The more participants we have, the more incredible photos we’ll collect to celebrate Iceland’s beauty together.
